Nike

As people grow up in life, people learn to just do things rather than think about them too much. True a person might get hurt by taking any risk, but trying is what counts and getting back up again is what helps an individual grow. In sports, the athletes are themselves when it comes to playing his or her sport. If an athlete so happens to be a super star and really good at what he does then they are used for advertisement whether it is to sell tennis shoes or swimming shorts. In the ad above, Nike is taking a different approach in advertising their products. By the kid taking a piss on the wall, Nike is saying that if an individual buys Nike, they are accepted for what they are good at. In the ad above, that kid needs to take a leak so he does just that. By saying “Just do it,” it tells an individual not to think so much and just do something. In this ad, it is saying to just buy Nike. Not only that the kid is taking a piss, but the dog who urinates in such manner is watching the boy do what dogs do. It could be offensive in the manner that human beings are turning into animals. Being a sport fanatic, I personally say that the best way to advertise a product is by placing it alongside sports. The super bowl alone draws the attention of millions. And Nike so happens to make the products for these famous sports that so many people watch. It is the perfect way in trying to sell a product. Nike landed big name sport super stars such as Michael Jordan in helping make them the famous company that they are currently. However, this being said, the whole advertising aspect for Nike has changed as being portrayed in the ad above. The company is using everyday life and how people feel towards a certain issue to advertise their product. This being said, that is what makes this company so great. They know how to attract an audience and not lose their attention.

Burger King

As we all may know, advertisement is key to what cooperate America is. The U.S has had major changes in the way they advertise by exploiting nudity in the ads. Almost everything in the states is based on advertisement. Advertising is the biggest and best way to sell a product because it is viewed all over the world. If you wanted to buy tooth paste, there is an advertisement for that. If an individual was interested in some clothes, there is an advertisement for that. Wherever an individual goes, there will always be advertising. As we live our everyday lives, we start taking into consideration what these advertisements are trying to do. The BK super 7 inch advertisement represents a sexual advertisement. The lady has her mouth opened ready to put the 7 inch sandwich in her mouth. “It’ll blow your mind away.” By saying this along with the picture of the young lady opening her mouth waiting for the 7 inches to get in, it all represents a blow job. This type of advertisement attracts an audience, for the most part, men. In other words, this advertisement is saying that the sandwich is as good as a blow job. As a man, I think it is safe to say that a blow job is a good feeling. The lipstick on the girl’s lips represents feminine power. A strong woman that is capable of eating a man’s sandwich. It portrays the society we all live in today. By simply looking at the ad it makes me want to go to Burger King just so I can try the sandwich. Advertisements are most effective when they are used sexually. Everyone likes sex, and sex always attracts an audience. Sex will help sell the sandwich. Even if the sandwich did not taste good, the main message that is being sent out is about sex and how good it feels to get a blow job. These ads are wrong because they influence those who are younger, playing with their mind. It enables young men and women to think about sex at an unhealthy age.

Dates

Being a Muslim, it is an obligation to fast the month of Ramadan. During this holy month, a person cannot eat or drink from sunrise till sunset. It is a ritual to break a person’s fast by eating dates. Prophet Mohammad always used to break his fast by eating dates. Ever since then, it has been a very important tradition in Islam to have dates before breaking your fast. It is said that dates speeds up the metabolism making it healthiest to eat when a person first breaks their fast. In addition, dates are sweet. For those who do not know what a date is, it is a fruit. This fruit usually come from the desert. Some people say from Africa, other say from Asia. It is not just because of health that a person eats them, but they also are very delicious. I usually eat one, spit the seed out from the inside, and drink a glass of water. This being said, if dates taste good and very healthy to eat, should it not be served more at a breakfast table? Rather than eating waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausages, and boring cereal everyday, people should change the way they eat to better the health. When an individual eats pancakes, the only reason they eat them is so they can eat the syrup that is poured on them. If something is naturally sweet and speeds up the metabolism when a stomach is empty, and tastes good, it should be served more then often. Unlike pancakes, dates do not need syrup to make them sweet. They are naturally sweet. Considering how society has become obese and how people are now getting used to eating or living in the fast-food type of mentality, restaurants should start offering dates on their menu to give an awareness of how much health and what an individual eats is important. We would start seeing less obese people if people started caring about their health. Breakfast, as I have been told, has always been the most important meal of the day. If a person can start off the most important meal of the day, speeding up their metabolism by eating a simple date, it is most likely that this person will burn calories quicker than if they were to have bacon.

Manaeesh

Every culture has a certain food that everyone just loves and eats. In Lebanon, waking up to the smell of Manaeesh is like waking up to a beautiful scent of a flower. Manaeesh is somewhat of a quesadilla look alike. It is freshly made bread; on top of it comes either fresh cheese, oregano, maybe even some grounded meat. Boy does it get my mouth watery just talking about it. With the oregano manaeesh, people would dip it with the Lebanese yogurt called Labni. After it is dipped in, we grab those fresh marinated olives and take a bite. Can you say wow? Not to mention how amazing it tastes with tea. With the Cheese, a person simply eats it without having to dip it in anything. Same goes with the meat. The cheese is a favorite. I have taken some to many of my friends and they fell in love with it. My friends being Mexican, they said it looked a lot like a cheese quesadilla. However, when the cheese melts in a persons mouth, nothing more need be said.
In the states, my mother usually makes it on occasion. In the last day celebration of the month, Ramadan, my mother wakes up early in the morning just so she can prepare some home made manaeesh for the family. We wake up, have our breakfast, and go to the park to barbeque with family. It has been done every year since I been alive; never has my mother taken a day off. Being Muslim, the religion states that an individual must go to the city Mecca in Saudi Arabia for their pilgrimage. Usually after this pilgrimage is done, we greet those who are coming back with manaeesh on the table and a huge sign outside of the house that says “congratulations” in Arabic. It is very popular to eat it on these two special Islamic occasions. It was said that one of our Great grandparents started this little tradition. For my family as well as the many families in the village of Yaroun it only made sense to eat it on such occasions.

Shy

Do you ever feel stuffed after you eat dinner? Growing up, everyone in the household had to eat dinner at the same time. Sometimes a person gets carried away with the mouth watering food a mother is capable of making. It is traditional in Lebanon to drink tea after dinner. After waiting for the water to boil in a weird shaped metal on the oven, a person gets the bits of fresh Lebanese tea and slightly lays it in the boiling water. Pouring it in little, tiny glass cups with a little bit of sugar, stirring it with a tiny spoon, taking small sips; I have to admit, it does taste good. However, that is not the reason Lebanese people drink it. It is said that tea helps a person digest food faster, making it easier for a person to breathe and not feel stuffed. I personally do not like drinking any hot drink, but I do make an exception just for tea.
After eating dinner, all family members gather up, drink tea, and watch television. It relaxes a person without really thinking about it. In Arabic, this type of tea is called Shy. Seems like any Lebanese family household in the U.S has Shi shipped out from Lebanon just to have their little gatherings and ease their stomachs. Not only do Arabs drink tea after dinner, but they also drink it in the morning. It fits in just fine with pita bread and a type of cheese or yogurt called Labni. The tiny cup they use symbolizes that it came from Lebanon. For some odd reason, it is nearly impossible to find any Arab drinking it from a regular cup. They believe that the stomach only needs a small portion. My mother always tried to convince me that it is better than drinking soda. Some people think otherwise, but it is the tradition that makes generation after generation drink tea after a meal. Tea is also famous in Asia. I know of a few Asian families where all they would drink throught their day was Tea. Although they drink it differently, it is an tradition behind the drinking of tea and how it is good for an individual.
